2014 Avaler Cabernet Sauvignon Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma

As always, the hunt for great value California Cabs rolls on and this time it stops in the Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma. I tasted the Avaler a week or so ago and was tremendously impressed. “Avaler” in French means “to consume with great enthusiasm, as in gulp, swig, chug or devour” and you will certainly want to do so once you taste it.

Avaler is collaboration between two friends, Dylan Sheldon and Jon Phillips, who believe delicious wines should be on your dinner table every night, and should be of high quality but reasonably priced. I can assure you that they have succeeded in achieving their goal with this beauty.

MySomm Tasting Notes: “Seductive nose full of aromas of deep blueberry, kirsch, mocha, & hints of dark flowers. A deep, full-bodied Cab with intense flavors of rich dark fruit, smoky cedar & hints of graphite. The silky smooth, full tannins show delicate nuances of anise & lavender that reverberate through the long, prolific finish. Decant for an hour and enjoy!”

MySomm Special Price-$19.75 (normally $24-$25)
