2014 Domaine de Reuilly “Les Fossiles” Sauvignon Blanc Loire Valley-France

Reuilly is in the heart of Sauvignon Blanc territory. It’s an ancient winemaking village with only about 300 acres in vines. Today it is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance, thanks in large part to Denis Jamain. In the past sometimes called “poor man’s Sancerre”, Jamain is proving that the Sauvignon Blanc from Reuilly can stand right up there with the best of the Loire Valley. Located in the heart of the region, all of the Domaine’s vineyards are located within the commune of Reuilly and planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Gris.

Jamain and Domaine de Reuilly produce Sauvignon Blanc grown on the belt of prized Kimmeridgian limestone, a geological chain that connects the Loire with Chablis in Burgundy. This region of ancient fossil shells dates back to the Jurassic period, and this particular soil is without equal for producing the most focused, pure, and beautiful white wines in the world.

MySomm Tasting Notes: “This lovely 100% Sauvignon Blanc has a nose that displays such a wide array of aromatics, from classic citrus tones of lemon zest, nuances of grapefruit, and fresh lime to herbal scents of basil and freshly cut grass. The Chablis-like palate is pure and light bodied with intense precision that exemplifies the glorious purity of Kimmeridgian soil. Flavors of green apple and pear give way to mouthwatering acidity that is utterly refreshing and not only is this wine the perfect prescription for these hot summer days but also the precise pairing for a wide array of shellfish & seafood, asparagus, or a simple Caesar salad.”
