In the past I’ve featured the wines from Evening Land Vineyards as well as Sandhi, both projects of Rajat Parr. Probably the most influential Sommelier in the world, Rajat Parr isn’t certified by any governing body. Quite literally the epitome of the American Dream, Parr came from India and worked his way up from a busboy to Sommelier, Author, Restaurateur, & Wine Director for some of America’s finest restaurants.
A self-proclaimed Burgundy fanatic, Parr turned his prolific blind tasting abilities into making prolific Pinot Noir in his home of California with Sandhi and Evening Land, among others. Salem Wine Co. is the newest extension of Evening Land Vineyards. I tasted this delightful Pinot Noir a couple of weeks ago and I continue to be impressed with all of the wines being produced by this dynamic group including Parr himself, Sashi Moorman (winemaker at Sandhi & Stolpman), and Charles Banks (Founding Partner of Screaming Eagle.).
MySomm Tasting Notes: “A lovely, delicate Pinot Noir with a nose comprised of enticing aromas of pomegranate, black cherries, grated orange zest, & fresh raspberries. Along with these are fragrant baking spices & interesting savory/earthy notes of soy sauce, shiitake mushrooms and a touch of woodsmoke. Light bodied and feminine in the mouth, the vibrant red & dark fruits are joined with a touch of herbaceousness, particularly a lovely tobacco/fresh mint quality. Enjoy this now with a soy glazed salmon with mushroom sauté like this recipe:
