2015 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Chardonnay

In my notes on this wine I have circled and written in big letters, “OVERPERFORMS!” which is one note that I always love to see.

Pouilly-Vinzelles is an appellation of the Maconnais sub-region of Burgundy. Despite its name, the appellation does not cover wines made in the hamlet of Pouilly; rather, it is centered around the neighboring communes of Vinzelles and Loche and adopts the name Pouilly due to it’s proximity to the more well known Pouilly-Fuisse appellation.

This is a great region that is starting to garner notoriety and come out of the shadow of it’s more famous neighbor Pouilly-Fuisse. This particular gem comes from Domaine Joseph Drouhin, and they have really done some great things with grapes from this region.

MySomm’s Tasting Notes: “My favorite thing about this wine is that it is extremely pure and refreshing. The nose is lively, with enticing aromas of green apple, slate, and subtle peach tones. On the palate the wine is light to medium bodied and full of zesty tension. Lemon pith and lime zest along with green apple are joined by subtle tones of almond & hazelnut, cinnamon and other baking spices. These delightful secondary flavors really take this already great wine to another level. Drink Now-2020.”
