I hope all the Dads out there had a great Father’s Day! I know I did, so I want to keep the good times rolling with some more great wines, and it’s hard to beat a really wonderful Chateauneuf du Pape.
My subject line said “New to You”, and it was new to me as well but Domaine de Cristia has been making great CNDP since 1942. The name “Cristia” comes from a lieu-dit of the same name where the Domaine gets some of it’s best grapes. Originally, the wine was produced only for family and friends, but in 1999 the Domaine produced enough wine to bottle and sell commercially and the rest is history.
I was greatly impressed with the balance of this wine and to validate it further, the wine received excellent scores from both Wine Spectator and Robert Parker. I have this IN STOCK, so come by and pick up some today.
*For what it’s worth, Wine Spectator and Robert Parker agree with my assessment, giving this wine 94 & 92 points respectively.*
MySomm Tasting Notes: “85% Grenache, 15% Syrah. The nose exhibits aromas of flowers & herbs along with smoky exotic spices to go along with succulent raspberry & blueberry with hints of fig. The wine is medium-bodied, showing great balance on the palate. The Grenache is evident on the mid-palate where there are flavors of exuberant dark fruit and nuances of candied orange. Meanwhile, the Syrah comes through on the finish, completing the delicious wine with delicate notes of roasting coffee, mint, & dusty cocoa. Drink Now-2025.”
