I hope everyone had a good weekend. Domaine Palon has provided us with some great value in the past with their wonderful Gigondas and now I’m really digging their “Cuvée Esparza” Cotes du Rhone.
Domaine Palon is a tiny estate with only 17 acres in Gigondas. Despite it’s small size, the domaine has had a tremendous impact on winemaking in the area. Sebastien Palon represents the 4th generation of winemakers in his family, a family who was the co-founder of Gigondas Cave Co-operative in the 1950s.
The Esparza is 69% Grenache, 16% Syrah, & 15% Cinsault. I feel like this tremendously over-delivers for the price and provides immediate drinking pleasure.
I’ve got this IN-STOCK today, come by and grab some.
MySomm Tasting Notes: “The nose is exuberant with gorgeous ripe red fruit, tons of violet & other floral tones as well as black pepper and baking spices. This has a round and full body with a silky smooth texture. Flavors of red currant, plum, & black cherry fill out the middle palate while the back end shows ginger and Middle-Eastern spices. The finish is long and juicy with delicate hints of earth. ”
