Cambiata Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands

Last Friday I featured a pair of Pinot Noirs, one from Oregon and one from California. I got such a good response on the Cambiata Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands that I decided to feature it in a standalone e-mail.

Cambiata was founded in 2002 by Eric Laumann, a journeyman winemaker who spent the previous 25 years making wine for others around the Monterey County. Cambiata is an eclectic winery, producing wines from grapes that are rare in California, like Albariño, Tannat, & Dornfelder in addition to their highly structured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

I was tremendously impressed with this wine, and so were all the folks that came by and tried it Friday. I have more inventory arriving later this week, let me know how many you’d like.

MySomm Tasting Notes: “This possesses an intense nose with deep, dark fruit aromas accompanied by hints of smoky cedar and baking spices. On the palate the wine has some pleasant weight, with a nice medium body. There are dramatic flavors of pomegranate, baked plum, & dark Cassis. In addition to these “In Your Face ” flavors there are more nuanced touches of rose petal, anise, & raspberries stewed with thyme. Drink Now-2022.”

MySomm Price: $22.40/btl
