“Let the Land Speak.” That is the Mantra of Davis Bynum. Davis Bynum was the first in the Russian River Valley to produce single vineyard Pinot Noir. It came from the Rochioli Vineyard…you may have heard of it. If not, it is THE original prestigious vineyard in the Russian River Valley.
The tradition of single vineyard Pinot Noirs continues to this day, grown exclusively in the Russian River Valley. Jane’s Vineyard is to the far East side of the Russian River Valley. The wine spends 11 months in used French & Hungarian oak (25% new) and David Ramey of Ramey Vineyards is a consulting winemaker.
I thoroughly enjoyed this wine’s style. Rich and elegant, certainly from California, but clearly made with skill, passion, & restraint. This is my kind of wine, and I hope that it is yours as well.
MySomm Tasting Notes: “This wine has a fresh, lively nose with lots of black cherry, wild strawberry, black pepper, & scorched earth. The mouth shows a medium-bodied texture with silky smooth tannins. Flavors of baked plum, subtle tones of leather, tobacco, & singed roses all dance around the palate. The finish is smooth, elegant, and long. Enjoy this wine over the next 5-7 years for optimal drinking.”
MySomm Price: $27.59 (Davis Bynum’s price is $35 on their website)
