In 1978 Silvio Mesana took over the Montesecondo farm that his Father purchased in 1963. Since then, he has worked tirelessly in the vineyard to produce a wine that has balance and integrity, truly showcasing the terroir of the area. He does this by staying 100% Biodynamic and Organic.
The 2013 Montesecondo Rosso is almost all Sangiovese with a hint of Canaiolo. Unlike many of his peers in Tuscany, Silvio does not use the Super-Tuscan style Bordeaux grapes like Cabernet Franc or Merlot, instead focusing on the traditional Sangiovese to represent the classic style of the region.
“A dried red fruit and herbaceous nose leads into a light, soft, & elegant palate. The mouth is bursting with bright red fruit that really sings on the palate. There are also subtle notes of eucalyptus, dusty basil, and old leather. The structure of the wine is phenomenal with mouthwatering acidity leaving you want another sip and firm but silky tannins that coat the mouth without drying it out.”
This is the perfect wine for light meat dishes and fowl like Chicken Marsala, Seared Duck Breast, or Quail and Mushroom Risotto.
