Good Morning Ladies & Gentlemen,

When you get a great producer out of Burgundy and combine them with a great piece of terroir amazing things can happen.  That's exactly what we have here with this beauty from Joseph Drouhin.  The Macon region produces some excellent versions of the Chardonnay grape, but Drouhin's parcel here in the Bussieres commune is particularly special.

Dirt Matters

Site: a large terroir in the south of Burgundy, close to Pouilly-Fuissé. The village of Bussières is located on the beautiful "Mont du Mâconnais

Soil: clay and chalk dating from the Jurassic era are very favorable to the cultivation of the Chardonnay grape.

Even if you have great terroir, you need someone who knows what to do with it.  Domaine Joseph Drouhin has a long standing reputation for excellence in the Burgundy region.  Joseph's grandson Robert, who succeeded him in 1957 is largely responsible for the Domaine's current status, and is responsible for purchasing many of the vineyards that fill many of their bottles today.

MySomm Tasting Notes

This has a steely, flinty nose with bright green apple & floral-laced citrus.  There is a lofty, airy feel in the mouth with some succulent tropical fruit tones.  The palate shows more notes of limestone and chalky mineral and a lot more zesty lemon peel on the finish.  Mouthwatering acidity lingers on the palate long after the wine is gone.  This is a brilliant production that I can't recommend enough.  Drink now-2023 for freshness.
