2010 Bodegas Martinez “Alesanco” Rioja Crianza

The maxim of the Martinez family’s winery is “A wine for every occasion.” The vineyards of Bodegas Martinez are located at the very heart of the Rioja Alta, the region considered to be of the highest quality among the 3 sub-regions of Rioja. The vineyards owned by the Martinez family contain lovely growings of Tempranillo, Garnacha, & Viura which allows the Martinez family to produce a wide array of quality wines that wouldn’t be possible to obtain in different environs.

The Crianza from Bodegas Martinez is their most popular & decorated wine. Made with 80% Tempranillo, they blend in 20% Garnacha to help round out the wine, give it some depth. It spends 12 months in oak and then another 12 months in bottle before being released to the public. This is a juicy, full-bodied red that will satisfy both Old World & New World palates.

MySomm Tasting Notes: “The 8 years of age here contribute to a very complex nose. Where once there were aromas of bright, fresh cherries & raspberries, now you have a plethora of subtle notes of dried cranberry, pomegranate, & hints of balsamic-laced chocolate. On the palate the wine is medium+ in body and intense as it aggressively shows flavors of dried red fruits, anise, and damp rich earth. The tannins are full and grippy yet retain a semblance of subtlety that makes this wine exciting from beginning to end. Drink Now-2023.”
