The “Pruno” from Finca Villacreces is one of the most anticipated Spanish each and every year. It’s often referred to as the “Best Spanish Red under $20.”
The grapes for this wine come from vineyards that are 100% Estate owned by the Domaine. They are situated in the heart of the Ribera del Duero on what’s known as the “Golden Mile”, right along the Duero river. This year’s blend is 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It spends 12 months in 3 year old French oak barrels.
MySomm Tasting Notes: Because this is an allocated wine, I have not yet been able to taste this vintage so I am including the score and notes from Wine Spectator. I will say that I’ve tasted each of the previous vintages and am certain that the quality will be retained this year.
91 Points Parker & Wine Spectator: “Smoky and loamy earth notes frame a core of black cherry and plum in this firm, dense red. Balsamic acidity balances muscular tannins, which yield to a floral, minerally finish. Drink now through 2028.”
